LG announces ‘luxury’ round smartwatch made of metal
LG has presented its second round smartwatch. The LG Watch Urbane has many of the same features as the G Watch R from a few months ago, but has a different design. Where the G Watch R has a sporty appearance, LG is aiming for a luxurious look with the Urbane.
The Watch Urbane has a stainless steel housing of 5.2 x 4.5 x 1.09 cm and a 410 mAh battery. The watch is available in both gold and silver finishes and comes with a 22mm leather strap. Users can replace the wristbands themselves. The watch has an IP67 certification, which makes it clear that it is dustproof and can be submerged under water for half an hour to a depth of one meter.
Like the G Watch R, the Urbane has a p-OLED screen with a diagonal of 1.3 “and a resolution of 320×320 pixels. The soc is also the same: a Snapdragon 400 from Qualcomm, a quad-core at 1.2 GHz with a Adreno 305-gpu The Urbane also has a heart rate monitor on board, as well as a barometer and various sensors. The watch runs on Android Wear.
LG seems to want to delete the ‘G’ in the name of its watches. For example, in the announcement of this new watch, it refers to the G Watch R as LG Watch R and this new watch bears the name Watch Urbane, also without G. LG has been using the ‘G’ in its product names since 2012, when it launched the Optimus G. presented.
LG will only announce later when and at what price the Watch Urbane will be released. Given the company’s emphasis on the look and feel of the watch, it is likely that it will be marketed as a luxury version of the Watch R, which currently costs around $250.
