In addition to Panasonic, LG and Sony have also announced new blu-ray players in the context of CES. These devices support UHD Blu-ray playback and are HDR capable.

The Sony copy is called UBP-X800 and was developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures Enterainment. This model is equipped with two HDMI ports, one for audio and the other for video. Sony wants to ensure that interference is minimized. Furthermore, the player features Hi-Res Audio and should be compatible with most audio codecs. It is possible to play sound wirelessly via Bluetooth, with support for playing 192kHz/24bit and DSD files.

LG’s device is the South Korean company’s first UHD Blu-ray player and bears the name UP970. The player can display Dolby Vision HDR content; this feature should be available through a software update later this year. The UHDTVs that the company also announced during CES, of course, also support Dolby Vision. In addition, it is possible to play HDR10 content via the device. The player is compatible with HEVC and various audio formats, including Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD. Just like the Sony variant, this model has two HDMI ports for sound and image.

The Sony model will be available in the spring for a price of about four hundred euros. The LG player will be on sale from March, but the manufacturer has not yet mentioned a price.
