Lenovo has equipped its gaming laptops for 2023 with new hardware and an ‘AI chip’, which should increase the maximum consumption for better performance. The laptops can optionally be equipped with eye tracking from Tobii.

Lenovo is giving all of its Legion laptops a refresh, with a slightly modified look, but the main changes are on the inside. The Legion Pro 7 and Pro 5 laptops will be equipped with new hardware from Intel’s thirteenth generation, or AMD’s 7000 series. In all cases it concerns ‘HX’ processors, with a tdp of 55W.

The video cards in the laptops are, as far as announced, only coming from Nvidia. These are video cards from Nvidia’s recently announced RTX40 series. Lenovo lists the maximum power at which the company configures the video cards with all video cards. Lenovo opts for the maximum power allowed by Nvidia, including 25W dynamic boost clock.

To further increase the performance, the laptops are equipped with a ‘Lenovo LA AI chip’. Lenovo is not very clear about the exact operation, but the chip must ensure that the CPU and GPU communicate better in order to achieve higher frame rates. It seems that the chip should ensure that some extra power goes to the CPU during gaming if it is the limiting factor in a game, or to the GPU if the limit is there.

The laptops are also equipped with Tobii Horizon, a system that uses eye and face tracking to convert movements of your face into movements in games.
