Lenovo is equipping its Ideapad S10e netbook with the Linux-based Splashtop platform. It allows a user to access an email client, Skype, a photo viewer and a web browser within seconds of starting up.

Lenovo will offer Splashtop under the Quickstart name. The Ideapad S10e is the first netbook to be equipped with the compact operating system. Asus already equips its notebooks and Eee Box with Splashtop, under the name Express Gate, but has not yet released an Eee PC with the platform.

“Netbook users want an instant, efficient, and secure way to get online, and Splashtop is the perfect solution,” claims Mark Lee, CEO and co-founder of Devicevm, the company behind the operating system. The presence of Splashtop seems to be the only difference from the Lenovo Ideapad S10. The e version also has the 1.6 GHz Atom from Intel and Windows XP as the operating system.
