Lenovo shows new version foldable ThinkPad Fold X1 with larger OLED screen

Lenovo introduces a new version of its folding ThinkPad X1 Fold. This has a 16″ OLED screen. The laptop will come to the US later this year and will have a suggested retail price from 2499 euros. It is not known when the X1 Fold will come to the EU.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is larger than its predecessor. The device will have a 16.3″ OLED panel, where the current model has a 13.3″ panel. The screen of the new model will have an aspect ratio of 4:3. Lenovo does not mention a resolution in its press release, but does say that the panel can display HDR images with a maximum brightness of 600cd/m². The device supports Dolby Vision for this.

The X1 Fold can function as a kind of tablet, but can also be folded in half. This allows the device to be used as a laptop with a screen diagonal of approximately 12″. Lenovo provides a separate keyboard for this, which can be placed on the bottom of the screen and can also function separately from the device. trackpad and a TrackPoint to control the mouse cursor.

The laptop also has a maximum of an Intel Core i7 CPU from the twelfth generation, although the manufacturer does not mention a specific model. The ThinkPad Fold X1 can be equipped with up to 32GB of Lpddr5 memory and up to 1TB of SSD storage. On the sides are three USB-C connections, two of which have Thunderbolt 4 support. The case of the laptop is also about 25 percent thinner than its predecessor. When unfolded, that comes down to a thickness of 8.6 mm and when folded it is 17.4 mm. In addition, the device gets thinner screen edges than its predecessor. The back of the ThinkPad X1 Fold is made of recycled fabric and includes a fold-out stand to place the laptop.

Lenovo will initially release the laptop in the United States. That will happen in November. The laptop has a suggested retail price from 2499 euros, while the current ThinkPad X1 Fold cost 4049 euros at release. It is not known if and when the device will come to the EU.
