Lenovo has announced the ‘Cast’. With this accessory, the company offers the possibility to stream photos, video and games from mobile devices to TVs. The ‘hockey puck’ is connected via HDMI and supports Miracast.

The Lenovo Cast has a diameter of 70mm and is 15mm high. The streamer supports WiFi-n and has a 2×2 network card with which, according to the company, a range of up to 20 meters can be achieved. Streaming requires a device with Android 4.3 or later, but the Cast can also work with Windows 8.1 or iOS devices that support Miracast or dlna.

In addition to the HDMI 1.3 interface, there is a USB port to draw power. Streaming 1080p content is not a problem, according to Lenovo. Thanks to the Miracast support, the Cast works differently from Google’s Chromecast; it gets content from the Internet, but mobile devices can also stream offline images directly to the Lenovo accessory, just like the Wireless Display Adapter from Microsoft.

The Cast will be available in August for $49. That is converted 45 euros, but whether that will be the actual euro price is unknown.
