Lenovo sold more PCs and laptops in the quarter, but posted lower sales and lower profits. In the smartphone branch, sales fell sharply, but according to Lenovo, the Moto models are still doing well.

Lenovo says it shipped 15.7 million computers in the last quarter, a two percent increase from a year earlier. In North America in particular, there was a strong growth in deliveries of 14 percent. According to the company, the PC market is still shrinking and has fallen by 2 percent in the same period.

At the business unit that provides servers, storage systems, software and services, sales fell by 20 percent. Lenovo’s smartphone division also did less well with sales that were 23 percent lower than a year earlier. According to the company, things are nevertheless going well for the Moto models. For example, 12 percent more Moto G devices were delivered. A total of 15 million smartphones were shipped in the quarter, but it is not known how many of them are Lenovo or Moto devices.

The quarterly turnover amounted to 12.2 billion dollars, converted about 11.5 billion euros. Turnover is therefore 6 percent lower than in the same quarter a year earlier. The profit came in at 98 million dollars, compared to 300 million dollars a year earlier.
