Lenovo is recalling some fifth-generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops. These are models that came out last year and were made between December 2016 and October 2017. A loose screw can cause a fire.

Lenovo has determined that a limited number of its fifth-generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops have a loose screw. That screw could damage the battery, resulting in overheating. Because of this potential fire hazard, Lenovo is recalling affected laptops for inspection and repair if necessary.

No laptops are known to have caught fire as a result of the issue, but Lenovo says three customers worldwide have experienced overheating and damage to their laptops. Laptops that may exhibit the issue were manufactured between December 2016 and October 2017. Instances made after November 1 are not affected.

It concerns ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops with type numbers 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3 and 20H4. Those are the models that were announced at the beginning of last year. It is not known exactly how many copies were affected. Owners of the laptops can check their device’s serial number on the Lenovo website to see if their copy is being recalled.
