Lenovo plans to release three to five Moto Mods per quarter
Lenovo plans to release three to five Moto Mods for its Moto Z smartphones every quarter. That should stimulate the sale of the devices. So far, in addition to the Mods that were announced along with the smartphones, Lenovo has hardly released any new Mods.
That three to five new Mods should be released every quarter, the sales director of Lenovo Asia Pacific says according to DigiTimes. The director states that the sale of the accessories is successful, an average of 1.5 Mods would be sold for every Moto Z smartphone.
Lenovo has often indicated that more Moto Mods are on the way. For example, the company said in December last year that at least twelve copies are planned for this year. Despite the promises, the company has released few new Mods so far. In December it was stated that a new Moto Mod would be released every month, but that is not the case.
At the Mobile World Congress at the end of February, Lenovo announced a Moto Mod with Amazon Alexa and a Gamepad Moto Mod, which serves as a controller for games and has an extra battery. There will also be an extension for wireless charging. The manufacturer has not yet given concrete details about the Mods, but they should be released around the summer. Previously, Lenovo has indicated that it will ‘probably’ also release a Google Tango mod
When Lenovo presented the Moto Z and Moto Z Play in June 2016, modules with a speaker, beamer and an extra battery were announced. A few months later, the Hasselblad camera module was released. Since then, another battery accessory and a Vehicle Dock have appeared.
When announcing the Moto Z smartphones and accompanying Moto Mods, Lenovo indicated that any new devices in the series can also handle the accessories. Three generations of Moto Z smartphones should support current Moto Mods. The Moto Mods are connected to the smartphones via a magnetic connection with sixteen pins.
