Lenovo announced new ThinkPad laptops in the T and X series at MWC. Compared to the predecessors, the laptops have become thinner and lighter, with narrower screen edges.

The ThinkPad X390 can be seen as the successor to the X280, but with a 13.3″ instead of a 12.5″ screen. Because the thickness of the screen edges has decreased by fifty percent, the housing of the X390 is only a fraction larger compared to the X280. The laptop will be available with up to Intel Core i7s with vPro and up to 32GB of RAM. The screen has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels with a maximum brightness of 400cd/m².

The X390 Yoga also has thinner bezels than its predecessor, and this model is also slightly lighter and thinner; it weighs 1.32 kilograms and is 15.95 mm thick. The screen is a 13.3″ panel with a 1080p resolution and a maximum brightness of 300cd/m². The maximum memory amount is also somewhat lower than with the X390: 16GB. Lenovo offers both laptops with a maximum of 1TB SSD storage and with its ThinkShield suite of privacy features, such as the ThinkShutter webcam slider. The X390 will launch in April for a starting price of $1,209, while the X390 Yoga will arrive a month earlier for prices from $1,390.

The T-line of ThinkPads gets an update in the form of the T490, T490s and T590, with the first two having a 14″ screen and the latter a 15.6″ screen. Like the X390 models, the laptops get Whiskey Lake-generation Intel processors, and are thinner and lighter than their predecessors. The laptops optionally have screens with 1920×1080, 2560×1440 or 3840×2160 pixels and with the 1080p panels the maximum brightness is 400cd/m², but with the other 500cd/m². With the T490s, the full-HD screen with 400cd/m² is also of a more energy-efficient type than with the other models.

It is striking that Lenovo opts for soldered working memory, Notebookcheck notes. The T490s gets 32GB of soldered ram and with the T490 and T590 it is 16GB ddr4, with an additional slot, so that the total can come to 48GB. The PowerBridge function for the hot swappable battery has also had to be removed and the SD card reader has been exchanged for micro SD. The T490 and T590 get an optional GeForce MX250.

The ThinkPad T490s will be released in April for 1330 euros, the T490 will be available in March for 1172 euros and the T590 will also hit the shelves in March, with a starting price of 1148 euros.
