Lenovo has announced a number of new workstations. These are models in the ThinkStation P series. The new workstations are equipped with Haswell-E Xeon processors, fast DDR4 RAM and Thunderbolt 2 support.

The workstations will be based on the LGA2011-3 socket. One or two Haswell-E Xeon E5 processors can be placed in the various configurations, writes Develop3d, which received a preview of the new models from Lenovo. The motherboards also have support for DDR4 memory. In addition, the ThinkStation Ps offer support for Intel’s Thunderbolt 2 technology.

The top model is the ThinkStation P900. This has room for two Xeon processors and offers space for sixteen DDR4 memory strips, good for a maximum of 512GB of RAM. Equipped with a 1300W power supply, the housing can accommodate up to fourteen storage devices, while also having room for up to four video cards. Two gigabit Ethernet ports are also available.

The ThinkStation P700 can also handle two CPUs and offers up to 384GB DDR4 RAM and three video cards. Finally, the ThinkStation P500 offers space for one Xeon processor, while the eight dimm slots allow up to 256GB of RAM. Two video cards can be placed in the P500. The cheapest model, the P300, can also handle Intel Core processors and supports up to 32GB of RAM.

Lenovo offers the customer the option to equip the workstations with Nvidia Quadro or Tesla video cards. The so-called Flex system can also be used to add extra functionality in the form of a plug-in card. Lenovo offers, among other things, a plug-in card with a raid controller, a card with extra PCI-e, USB and SATA ports, and fast m.2 SSDs that are placed on a card. Lenovo reports that the new workstations will be available from October, except for the P300. This model has already become available in May.
