Lenovo equips world’s lightest ultrabook with Broadwell CPU

Lenovo has released two new models of its LaVie ultrabook, developed in collaboration with NEC. The new LaVie laptops feature Broadwell processors and will be available outside Japan for the first time.

Born from a joint venture between Lenovo and NEC, LaVie laptops are relatively unknown outside of Japan, having not been shipped elsewhere until recently. However, Lenovo has announced at CES that its two new high-end ultrabooks will also be delivered in the US.

The first new LaVie ultrabook is the HZ550, which has a matte 13.3″ screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. The processor is an unspecified Core i5 processor from the Broadwell- generation The main feature of the HZ550 is its particularly low weight of 780 grams, making it the lightest ultrabook in the world.

The second new LaVie laptop has been given the name HZ750 and is characterized by a touch-sensitive screen that can be folded around the housing. The HZ750 is therefore somewhat heavier than the HZ550, but with a weight of 925 grams still very light for a 13.3 “ultrabook. The hardware is also a bit smoother than with its lighter brother, because a Core i7 processor comes standard. In addition, the HZ750 offers the option of 8GB of RAM. As far as the screen is concerned, there is also something to choose from, namely between a full-HD panel and a WQHD screen. The SSD of the HZ750 is just like the HZ550 128GB big.

Both LaVie laptops will be available in the United States beginning in May. The HZ550 will cost $1299, while the HZ750 will cost $1499. For now, the LaVie laptops will not be available outside of Japan and the US.
