Leica unveils cheaper variant M Typ 240 without live view
Leica has officially announced the M Typ 262. The device, which costs 5500 euros, is similar to the Leica M Typ 240 that was released in 2012, but slightly cheaper. The new model has no live view and cannot film.
Like the M Typ 240, the new Leica M Typ 262 has a full-frame CMOS sensor with a resolution of 24 megapixels, but a slightly different housing that weighs 100 grams less. The look is more like the older Leica M9 and the Leica logo on the front of the camera is smaller. Furthermore, Leica has adapted the menus of the camera so that all information is now available on two pages.
The main difference between the new Leica M and the older M Typ 240 is that the Typ 262 does not have a live view. There is a screen present, but the rangefinder must be used to frame photos. Because no live view is possible, the movie function is also missing. Furthermore, Leica says that the shutter of the new model makes less noise when taking photos. From November 25, the Leica Typ 262 is for sale for a suggested retail price of 5500 euros. That is 1000 euros lower than the suggested retail price of the Leica M Typ 240.
