Leica Q2 camera with 47-megapixel sensor and fixed lens costs 4870 euros
Leica has announced its Q2 compact camera with full-frame sensor and fixed 28mm f/1.7 lens. The new model has a higher resolution and an OLED viewfinder. The housing is sealed against dust and moisture and the camera is for sale immediately.
Leica gives the Q2 a CMOS sensor with a resolution of 47.3 megapixels and a 4k movie function with frame rates of 30 and 24 fps. In 1080p resolution, you can film at a maximum of 120fps. The 28mm f/1.7 lens with optical stabilization and a built-in leaf shutter is unchanged from the 2015 Leica Q1. However, the manufacturer has added a new 75mm crop mode to the existing 35mm and 50mm crops. This creates a crop of the image to simulate a longer focal length.
The appearance of the camera is largely unchanged, but Leica has upgraded the Q2 with better seals so that it is now resistant to water and dust. The Q2 also has slightly fewer buttons than its predecessor. The built-in electronic viewfinder now uses an OLED screen with 3.68 million pixels. In the Leica Q1, that was an LCD. The Leica Q2 is available immediately in Leica Stores for a suggested retail price of EUR 4,870.
