Leica has introduced its first waterproof camera. The Leica XU features an aps-c sensor with 16.3-megapixel resolution and a 23mm f/1.7 lens. The device is waterproof to a depth of fifteen meters and is also shockproof.

The specifications of the Leica XU correspond to the regular Leica X camera, but the housing has been modified. According to Leica, the camera can withstand drops from 122cm high and the UX can be used for an hour at a maximum depth of fifteen meters underwater. The design of the camera comes from Audi Design.

Converted to the full-frame format, the 23mm f/1.7 lens gives a focal length equivalent of 35mm. The minimum focusing distance is 20cm and a flash is built into the rim around the lens. The ISO range is adjustable from 100 to 12,500 and you can film in full HD resolution with the camera at 30 fps. The Leica XU will be available from February for a suggested retail price of 3300 euros.
