Leica equips new MP rangefinder camera with sapphire glass and 2GB buffer

Leica has announced the MP (Typ 240), a system camera with a scratch-resistant and ‘unbreakable’ display, made of sapphire glass. The camera also contains a 2GB image buffer, good for making up to 24 images at a frequency of 3 images per second.

The MP (Typ 240) is available in a black body or a body with a silver chrome finish. The housing is made of magnesium. Leica’s new rangefinder camera, with a manual image field selector via the traditional ‘frame selector’, includes a 24 megapixel cmos sensor. The light sensitivity is between 200 and 2400 iso.

The 3″ LCD screen has 920,000 pixels and is protected by sapphire glass that is scratch-resistant and shatterproof according to Leica. An anti-reflective layer is also applied to the display. Due to the ‘frame selector’ on the front of the Leica MP (Typ 240) body, current camera protectors and ever-ready cases no longer fit, the manufacturer reports. Leica says it will release a number of new accessories, such as the M/MP (Typ 240) camera protector and the ever-ready case M/MP (Typ 240). The suggested retail price of both models is 6810 euros. Incidentally, the predecessor, the Leica M from 2012, remains on the market.
