LEGO will triple the number of developers in two years
LEGO invests hundreds of millions of euros in software. The company wants the number of software developers to increase to 1800 by the end of 2023, a threefold increase from the end of 2021.
Of the 1800 developers who must be working for LEGO by the end of 2023, 400 will work in Copenhagen. In addition, LEGO is expanding its software divisions in London and Shanghai. At the end of 2021, LEGO employed 600 software developers. The investment of hundreds of thousands of euros in software should, according to the CEO of the company, reflect that the toy company no longer sees physical and digital products as separate products.
“We see these things coming together, so it’s easier to connect the two and make it a single experience,” LEGO CEO Niels Christiansen told the Financial Times. One of the options the company is considering is to develop your own games. Until now, LEGO had this done by third parties, such as TT Games.
LEGO has several apps and programs for games and design, among other things, and the company has software for the Mindstorms robotics kit, among other things. In addition, there are plans for a child-friendly metaverse and AR lenses for Snap from LEGO have been developed.
