LEGO releases Atari 2600 kit on August 1
Lego has unveiled a new kit that allows builders to recreate the Atari 2600. The package will be available from August 1 and will cost 239 euros. The release date of the kit coincides with Atari’s fiftieth anniversary.
The assembled set is 8 centimeters high, 33 centimeters wide and has a depth of 22 centimeters. Hidden inside the console is a diorama that emerges when the top of the Atari 2600 is slid forward. In total there are 2532 parts in the package, which has the number 10306.
In addition to the console and its joystick, three game cartridges can be made: those of Asteroids, Centipede and Adventure. The cartridges fit into the console’s slot, just like the NES kit. The package also includes 3D models of the said games.
The Atari 2600 was released in the United States in 1977 under the name Atari VCS. Three years later, the console was for sale in the Netherlands. The successor to the VCS, the Atari 5200, appeared in 1982. The VCS was then given the Atari 2600 name, because of the factory number of the console (CX2600).
