Lego comes after seven years with new programmable DIY robots Mindstorms
Lego comes with a new Mindstorms pack after 7 years. This allows users to build robots that can be programmed with Scratch and Python. The kit has four motors, a color and light sensor, a six-axis gyroscope and accelerometer, a speaker and an LED matrix.
The kit can be used out of the box to build five different robots: a traditional robot, a four-legged, two slingshot-style robots and the more universal Modular Vehicle Platform. The largest robot is 36cm high. When delivered, they can navigate, grab objects, fire projectiles, give high-fives, dance and more, according to Lego. The company speaks of ‘more than 50 activities and challenges’.
The heart of the robots, the so-called Intelligent Hub, has Bluetooth connectivity, a micro USB port for ‘compatible devices’ and a rechargeable Li-ion battery in addition to the above. The companion app works on Windows 10, macOS, iOS, Android, and a selection of Fire OS devices.
The 949 parts in the kit can be supplemented with your own Lego Technic parts to expand the fun and possibilities. The minimum age is ten years. The kit will be released in the fall for €360.
