Leaked specs show Intel Core i9-7920X with 12 cores and 24 threads
A slide has surfaced online showing the specs of the upcoming Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors for Intel’s hedt platform. The top model seems to get 12 cores and 24 threads and the Skylake-X models will probably be labeled Core i9.
All new processors are presumably models for the lga2066 socket and can be placed on motherboards with an X299 chipset. The Skylake-X models succeed the Broadwell-E processors, of which the i7-6950X was the top model with 10 cores and 20 threads.
The information about the Core i9 processors was put online by a user of the AnandTech forum. According to the user, the Skylake-X processors support quad-channel DDR4-2666 memory, with the Kaby Lake-X models it is dual-channel. That is consistent with information that came out earlier. The same applies to the aforementioned TDPs, of 140 watts for the i9 models and 112 watts for the i7 variants with four cores.
Clock speeds are not yet known for the top model, the Core i9-7920X. This processor would be released in August, while the other models will be announced in June, according to the source. Intel may show the processors during the E3 game fair. There have been rumors for some time that Intel will at least announce the i7-7760K and i7-7640K there. The prices of the new processors are not yet clear.
