Leak in iOS confirms: iPad Pro gets radical redesign
With the rumors of the last few months, it was almost impossible for the iPad Pro to undergo a thorough facelift. A discovered icon in iOS 12 now confirms what we already knew: the iPad Pro 2018 looks radically different from its predecessor. Tomorrow Apple will present the tablet at a special event in New York.
iPad Pro 2018 Face ID
The detailed icon (see above) was discovered by Guilherme Rambo from 9to5Mac, who once again checked the firmware of iOS. Interestingly, the icon shows an iPad Pro without home button. This means that the iPad Pro 2018 follows the iPhone X and newer Face ID, Apple’s face recognition technology
To make Face ID possible, an advanced TrueDepth camera is required at the front, which can see depth. In the latest iPhones, Apple incorporated it into a notch, but the icon shows that the iPad Pro 2018 does not have it. The edges of the iPad Pro 2018 seem to have become considerably thinner, but they offer enough space for the camera module – so no notch is needed.
Format iPad Pro 2018
While the screens of the iPhones become bigger and bigger, the screen diagonals of the iPad Pro are probably the same. Earlier, the resolution of the iPad models leaked exactly the same as the current 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch models. Because the edges of the iPad Pro are a lot slimmer, the tablet is a bit more compact.
In addition to the design, the iPad Pro also changes. For example, Apple would replace the Lightning connector with usb-c, which would allow, among other things, the output of video in 4K HDR. It is also likely to introduce a Magnetic Connector and the iPad will support a new Apple Pencil.
