Swedish Avalanche Studios has hired the lead developer of the Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod. The developer was also working on a similar mod for Just Cause 3, work on it has now been halted. Another team is still working on multiplayer for JC3.

Developer Cameron Foote announces the news himself on the JC-MP forum. Foote says he will be working at Avalanche on current and future projects. He states that as an employee of the studio, he can “bring many of the things players know from JC2-MP to Avalanche’s projects”, and that this can be at a higher level than what is possible with a mod.

The Just Cause games from developer Avalanche do not have a multiplayer mode. For the second installment in the series, Foote developed the popular multiplayer mod JC2-MP with a team of volunteers. The team also started work on JC3-MP, but development has ceased now that the lead developer has joined the Swedish game studio. Also, the rest of the team doesn’t have enough time to continue the work on the mod. The developer does say that the team will continue to support JC2-MP. No more new features will be added, but updates will continue to fix bugs and ensure stability.

While work on JC3-MP has ceased, there is another team working on a multiplayer mod for Just Cause 3. Nanos recently announced that that mod is approaching a “playable stage.” That team plans to release the mod sometime in 2016. The project is officially supported by developer Avalanche Studios and publisher Square Enix, according to the makers.
