Last writer to work on Half-Life and Portal leaves Valve

Chet Faliszek has left Valve Corporation. He spent 12 years with the studio and was involved as a lyricist on Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two and both Portal games. Lately, he was a point of contact for VR developers.

Faliszek reports his departure to GamesIndustry.biz. He leaves open what he will do now, but emphasizes that there is no disagreement between him and Valve. “I worked there for 12 years, bringing great games and hardware to the market, and I needed something new.”

During his time at Valve, Faliszek has worked as a writer on Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, both Portal games, and both Left 4 Dead games. In recent years, he acted as a point of contact for developers who wanted to make games with the HTC Vive, the VR headset developed by Valve.

The departure of Faliszek follows that of two other leaders from the company. In February, Erik Wolpaw left, who co-wrote the lyrics for the studio’s games with Faliszek. In early 2016, Marc Laidlaw left, who was previously employed by Valve and was responsible for the story and dialogue for both Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Wolpaw and Laidlaw also indicated that there was no disagreement between them and the studio. . Laidlaw indicated that he wanted to write books; Wolpaw is a writer involved in the development of Psychonauts 2.
