Larian Studios: Baldur’s Gate ‘Maybe’ Coming In Early Access In August
Baldur’s Gate 3 “maybe” will be released in Early Access on Steam and Google Stadia in August. Larian Studios came out with the somewhat striking message on Saturday. According to Larian frontman Swen Vincke, it depends, among other things, on whether they have completed the motion capture on time.
Due to the coronavirus, a lot of work was temporarily halted, including the creation of animations using real, moving people. However, Vincke also reports that the graphics, combat, camera movements, ruleset integration, and narration have all been improved over previous demos. All of that will be shown on June 18 in a new gameplay demo.
A price for Baldur’s Gate 3 has not yet been announced. Steamprices.com points out that the first and second games since their release cost 39.99 and 44.99 euros respectively, so it is expected that Baldur’s Gate 3 will also end up somewhere close to those prices.
Baldur’s Gate is a series of RPGs set in the Forgotten Realms fantasy world of Dungeons & Dragons. The first game was released in 1998, made by BioWare, and since then Baldur’s Gate has been split into two series: the Bhaalspawn Saga and the Dark Alliance. There was already talk of a Baldur’s Gate III, namely The Black Hound, but that game was scrapped in 2003. A Baldur’s Gate III that was supposed to appear in 2009 and that would be made by Obsidian Entertainment eventually never came. Larian announced a year ago that he was working on a new part three.
