Lampposts in eighty municipalities have not been working for two nights due to an ICT failure
Lampposts in at least eighty municipalities have not been switched on since the change to summer time last Sunday. The company responsible for the operation suspects that it is an IT malfunction and now switches the lighting on manually.
Energy network company Alliander tells the NOS that. According to the company, the lampposts in parts of the affected municipalities did not turn on on Sunday evening and Monday evening. It is not clear how many lampposts are involved. According to Alliander, it depends on the switch that is used.
The lampposts work with switches that automatically turn the lighting on and off. There are two types of switches, says the Alliander spokesperson. In one of them, ‘something went wrong with the ICT’. It is suspected that the problem has to do with the transition from winter time to summer time. Alliander searches for a solution and until it is found, all lampposts are switched on manually.
Whether a neighborhood or municipality is affected depends on the switch used in the lanterns. The municipalities where the lighting no longer comes on are in Flevoland, Friesland, Gelderland, North Holland and South Holland. According to Omroep Flevoland, in some places one street remains dark, but there are also municipalities where the street lighting is almost nowhere on. That would be the case in Epe on the Veluwe.
