Lakka adds support for the Raspberry Pi 4 – update
Lakka developers have added support for the Raspberry Pi 4. This makes Lakka the first software to offer game emulation for the Pi 4. Users can install Lakka through NOOBS. An image file is also available.
Lakka is a Linux distro based on LibreELEC. This distro uses libretro and the RetroArch frontend. Lakka supports multiple emulators. The software offers support for Atari 2600, Game Boy, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation games, among others. In addition, Lakka’s graphical interface is coded directly in RetroArch. As a result, all emulators are configured in the same way and Lakka provides automatic controller support.
The Raspberry Pi 4 support was added in version 2.3 of Lakka, which runs on version 1.7.8 of RetroArch. This makes the distro the first emulator with official support for the Pi 4. The update adds real-time translations of games, among other things. With this, for example, Japanese games can be translated into English. In addition, a text-to-speech feature has been added. The Windows and Linux versions of RetroArch 1.7.8 also support physical CDs for Genesis Plus GX and 4DO games, among others.

Lakka developers recommend updating the Pi 4’s firmware as the latest version lowers the Pi 4’s temperatures. When emulating heavier consoles, such as the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation Portable, the developers recommend using a heat conductor.
