LaCie Introduces External Drives With USB-C Connectivity

Seagate and LaCie have announced new external drives. LaCie equips its hard drives with metal housings with a Porsche design and USB-C interfaces. Seagate comes with a 2TB external drive that is 9.6mm thick.

LaCie releases two lines of its new generation of external drives with Porsche design and USB 3.1 interface with type-c connection. The line of thin drives for use on the go will be available in variants with 1TB, 2TB and 4TB storage capacities. In addition, there will be a Desktop line with capacities of 4TB, 5TB or 8TB. The discs will be available in the Benelux from spring for unknown prices.

LaCie also comes with the LaCie Chromé, an external drive that contains two SSDs and also USB 3.1-c. It concerns USB 3.1 of the second generation, which offers theoretical transfer speeds of 10Gbit/s. The two internal SSDs each offer a storage capacity of 500Gb and are in raid0 configuration for a speed of up to 940MB/s. This drive will be available this quarter and the price will probably exceed 1000 euros.

Seagate is coming under its own name with a Backup Plus Ultra Slim drive. This external hard drive combines a thickness of 9.6mm with a storage capacity of 2TB. The disc will be available this quarter in the Benelux for a starting price of 89 euros.
