Kuo: New Apple TV that ‘improves cost structure’ coming later this year

Apple is coming with a new variant of its Apple TV that should improve ‘the cost structure’, reports the well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. That may mean that Apple will offer cheaper options.

Currently, the offer consists of the Apple TV 4K and the Apple TV HD. These range in price from around 160 euros for the 1080p variant to around 215 euros for the latest 4k variant with the most storage space. The new device should be released in the second half of this year, according to Kuo.

Kuo went on to say that he “believes that Apple’s aggressive strategy to integrate hardware, content and services in the recession will help it catch up with its competitors.” By this he presumably refers to the fact that, for example, a 4k-capable media player is available from Nvidia for around 150 euros. Google’s offer in that area starts at around 70 euros and with Amazon it is around 50 euros.
