Kuo: Apple will not update primary lens iPhone camera in 2021 and 2022
Apple is upgrading two of the three camera lenses of an upcoming iPhone, but the primary camera will have to do without a significant lens update in 2021 and 2022, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says.
Apple will provide this year’s iPhone with the same lens as the iPhone 12 and the smartphone will not receive a significant lens update in 2022, 9to5Mac concludes from a prediction by the well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is often right about what predictions about Apple products.
Kuo doesn’t report on his past predictions and invariably does if there are any changes, so 9to5Mac concludes that the analyst stands by his previous reports about camera lenses for the upcoming iPhones.
That prediction included that the ultra-wide lens will get an f/1.8 instead of f/2.4 lens for better performance in low-light conditions, and that Apple would add autofocus to that lens. In addition, Apple plans to equip iPhone models with a periscopic telephoto lens for a larger ‘zoom’ range by 2022.
