Kuo: Apple Watch Series 8 gets sensor for measuring body temperature

Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the Apple Watch Series 8 will have a sensor that allows users to measure their body temperature. The analyst also reports that the production issues of the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 have been resolved.

Kuo writes in his analysis that he is optimistic about demand for the Apple Watch in 2022, as the Series 8 will receive new health features next year, MacRumors reports. He also reports that the smartwatch will include a sensor for measuring body temperature. This would allow the watch to function as a kind of thermometer for the wrist, with which, for example, fever can be detected. Kuo further predicts that future AirPods will also receive health features, but does not provide details on that.

In June, Mark Gurman and Debby Wu of Bloomberg predicted that the Apple Watch Series 8 will have a body temperature sensor. According to those journalists, Apple initially planned to include such a sensor in the Series 7, but that this has been postponed to next year. The company is also said to be working on a sensor that can measure users’ blood sugar levels, but that feature would take a few years to come.

Apple will hold a presentation on September 14, in which it is expected to introduce the iPhone 13 lineup and a new Apple Watch Series 7 with an updated design. There were still some doubts about a Series 7 introduction in September, because Apple suppliers would struggle with production problems. Kuo writes that these problems have now been resolved, and that mass production of the Series 7 will start this month. The smart watch will therefore be introduced in September, according to Kuo, just according to schedule.
