Apple will present its first VR headset early next year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims. It would be glasses with a price tag of thousands of euros, which are equipped with many cameras, so that AR display is also possible.

Last year, Kuo expected Apple to release the VR glasses this year, but Bloomberg sources said early this year that the headset would have been delayed due to development issues. Kuo now poses in a new report that Apple will announce the glasses in January 2023. That’s the most accurate prediction yet. The analyst is known for good supply chain resources.

The headset from Apple is said to be intended for AR applications and mixed reality display, but it is not AR glasses with transparent screens. It would be a very high-resolution VR headset, with cameras on the outside that capture the environment. This is shown in the glasses and virtual information can be added to it. The glasses could also be used as a traditional VR headset with this design.

According to rumors, it is a headset that works independently, with computing power comparable to Apple’s M1 soc. At the beginning of this year, Ross Young of analyst firm DSCC stated that the headset uses an AMOLED panel with two micro-OLED screens on top. Apple could use this to apply foveated rendering, in which the OLED screen is used for peripheral vision with a relatively low resolution and the micro-OLED screens display the area that users focus on very sharply.
