Kunos not yet working on RTX ray tracing for Assetto Corsa Competizione
Italian developer Kunos Simulazioni is not yet working on RTX ray tracing support for the Assetto Corsa Competizione racing program. The racing sim is on Nvidia’s list of titles that will receive RTX support.
Kunos does not rule out that the software will eventually receive RTX support, but that will not be the case for the time being, according to a developer statement on the Assetto Corsa Competizione forum. The priority, he says, is to improve all aspects of the race sim: “If a full blown implementation is possible after finishing our long list of priorities for optimizing the title and maturing the technology, we want that would like to investigate”. According to the developer, there is now no reason to spend development resources and time on an implementation that produces low frame rates.
With the announcement he wants to put an end to discussions that regularly appear on the forum about the status of RTX implementation. The official stance, as expressed in the FAQ on RTX support, is that Kunos is “working with Epic Games and Nvidia to integrate new technology into Assetto Corsa Competizione.”
Nvidia used the racing sim as a showcase for its RTX technology last year, and in screenshots and a video the company showed reflections, shadows and ambient occlusion lighting effects. The software is on the list of programs that will receive RTX support and according to Nvidia Kunos will upgrade the Unreal Engine 4 for ray tracing support “at a later date”.
