Korean newspaper: Google wants to invest 827 million euros in LG OLED production
According to the South Korean newspaper Electronic Times, Google has offered to invest 1 trillion won in LG Display. With the investment, the search giant would like to increase the production of OLED panels for smartphones.
Google itself uses OLED panels in its Pixel smartphones and will probably also do so in its successors, which are expected later this year. If Google actually invests in LG Display, this will probably go together with conditions about the deliveries of panels for the phones.
The current Pixel and Pixel XL contain OLED panels from Samsung. Last week, the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei reported that Apple would have placed an order for 70 million OLED panels from Samsung. This may make it more difficult for other manufacturers to also purchase large quantities of OLED panels from Samsung.
The companies have not yet disclosed concrete details about the possible deal between Google and LG Display. The South Korean ETnews brings the message based on anonymous sources.
