According to Korean media, Apple is still testing large screens for its television plans. Apple would initially have wanted to use LCD panels, but would have decided to switch to OLED, which would mean a delay until at least 2015.

It would be for testing and it would not be certain yet that Apple will eventually produce the panels. coming “iTVs.” There have been regular rumors of Apple’s plans for televisions in previous years, but things have been quiet lately.

Initially, 65″ and 77″ TVs from the Cupertino manufacturer were expected to be released in the second half of 2014, but according to another source from the Korea Herald, Apple decided in October 2013 to postpone this. Several sources of the newspaper now say that the plans have been postponed to 2015. The delay would be the result of problems with securing content, but also because Apple would like to shift from LCD to OLED.

OLED offers, among other things, better contrast values than LCD, but the manufacturers are still struggling to produce large panels on a large scale and the prices are still high. LG seems to be the most important candidate to produce the panels for Apple: that manufacturer has been working with the group for years for, among other things, panels for the iPad and iPhone.
