Korean authorities confirm cause of Galaxy Note 7 battery problems
A report from a South Korean agency confirms Samsung’s reading about the battery problems of the Galaxy Note 7. According to the Koreans, the problems were indeed limited to the battery, and there was nothing wrong with the smartphone itself.
The Wall Street Journal reported this on the basis of a report by the Korean Agency for Technology Standards released Monday. This organization is part of the Korean Ministry for the Knowledge Economy and conducts research into product safety, among other things. The authorities have recently conducted an investigation in response to the fire risk with the Galaxy Note 7.
The report states that the smartphone’s battery was designed incorrectly, which led to the fire hazard. The Galaxy Note 7 showed no defects. With this, the Korean authorities confirm the reading of Samsung, which previously announced that the problems are only in the battery. According to Samsung, two design flaws have led to a fire hazard twice, and that conclusion was endorsed in the report.
The fact that the Korean authorities do not reveal any new problems in their report is a boost for Samsung. This does not mean that the case for Samsung has been solved. It is possible that the authorities will still impose fines for the problems at Samsung.
