Konami has authorized a group of modifiers to revive the first Metal Gear game. The first Metal Gear game dates back to 1987. The modders form an occasional team called Outer Heaven.

Outer Heaven approached Konami to make sure the publisher would not take legal action against the team. However, according to Kotaku, Konami has given the green light for the remake. The Japanese publisher sets the condition that the modders may not earn money from the use of copyrighted material. This may mean that the game will be available for free.

The first Metal Gear game, released in 1987, laid the foundation for one of the most successful gaming franchises ever; the Metal Gear series. Although the original game was released for the MSX, Outer Heaven uses Valve’s Alien Swarm engine for the development of the remake. Therefore, it is likely that the remake will only appear on Windows and perhaps also Mac and Linux. The Alien Swarm engine is built from a combination of the Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2 engines.

Now with Konami’s approval, Outer Heaven is seeking help from modders who understand C++ or game design to help with the development process. The name for the mod team doesn’t come out of the blue; Outer Heaven in the Metal Gear series is the name for the ideology envisioned by Big Boss.

The latest Metal Gear game has been in stores since March. It was striking that publisher Konami announced a month before the release that the new game would receive a price reduction. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes received a suggested retail price of 39.99 euros, a suggested retail price of 29.99 euros.
