Kodi 19 will also be available for tvOS platform of Apple TV media players
Kodi version 19 will also provide support for tvOS, the operating system of the Apple TV media players. Both the Apple TV from 2015 and the Apple TV 4K are supported, although the use of Kodi 19 does require a jailbreak or sideloading of the media center software.
The team behind Kodi writes that the Top Shelf functionality within tvOS is supported, which allows users to see a full-screen image or video as soon as they hover over the icon of an app. The Siri remote is also supported in Kodi 19.
The addition of tvOS support means that the 32-bit version of iOS will no longer be supported from Kodi 19. These users can still use Kodi 18. The oldest iOS devices that are still supported from Kodi 19 onwards, are the iPhone 5s, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, and the sixth-generation iPod touch.
According to the team behind the open source media player software, dropping this iOS support was not an easy choice, but it was decided to keep things ‘tenable’. The team points out that it has a limited group of volunteers and therefore needs to maintain a balance between keeping the work maintainable and the time it takes to add new features.
