Kobo comes with a new version of its water-resistant e-reader. The Aura H2O Edition 2 is slightly thinner and lighter than its predecessor. The new model also gets the same lighting with RGB LEDs as the Aura One.

Like the first model of the Aura H2O, which was introduced in 2014, the new version has a 6.8″ E Ink Carta screen with a resolution of 1430×1080 pixels. Kobo gives the new model, among other things, improved lighting, under the denominator ComfortLight PRO, this system with nine white LEDs and eight RGB LEDs, previously featured in the larger and more expensive Kobo Aura ONE, uses the RGB LEDs to adjust the color of the lighting so that less blue light is visible.

Kobo has made the housing of the new Aura H2O with 8.9 mm and 210 grams slightly thinner and lighter. The current version is 9.7mm thick and weighs 233 grams. The appearance has been modified and is now more in line with that of the Aura ONE. The new model is equipped with 8GB of internal memory, but there is no possibility to place an SD card. This was possible with the first version, although it had a storage space of 4GB.

The second edition of the Aura H2O can be submerged at any time. With the first version, the protective flap for the USB connection had to be closed. According to IPX8 rating, the e-reader is waterproof for up to sixty minutes in water up to two meters deep. The new Kobo Aura H2O will be available May 22. The e-reader has a suggested retail price of 179.99 euros and is therefore no more expensive than the current model.
