Kingston comes with new PCI-e SSDs
Kingston announced a number of new HyperX Predator SSDs at CES that can be plugged into a PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot. This would allow sequential read and write speeds of 1.4 and 1GB/s respectively.
Initially, Kingston is announcing versions with storage capacities of 240 and 480GB. These should be available in February. A 960GB edition should also be released in the course of 2015.
The SSDs must be placed in a PCI Express 2.0 x4 slot. The HyperX Predator SSDs are available in an m2 form factor. A half-height, half-length adapter is optionally available so that the drives can also be used in combination with motherboards without an m2 socket.
Due to the switch to the PCI-e interface, the SATA-600 interface, which has now become a bottleneck for many high-end SSDs, is being pushed aside. According to Kingston, the SSDs can be made bootable using standard ahci drivers.
A Marvell 88SS9293 controller is placed on the HyperX Predator SSDs. Kingston states that read speeds can reach up to 1.4GB/s and write speeds peak at 1GB/s. Kingston has not yet released the number of iops and the prices.
