Kingston Announces UV300 SSDs with TLC Memory
Kingston presents a new line of 2.5″ SSDs. The SSDnow UV300 models use tlc-nand and a Phision controller. There will be variants with storage capacities of 120GB, 240GB and 480GB.
According to the manufacturer, the new SATA-600 SSDs have a read speed of 550MB/s. Writing is at 350MB/s, 490MB/s and 510MB/s for the 120GB, 240GB and 480GB model respectively. The 4k random read rate is said to be 95,000iops, the 4k random write specs are remarkably low at 13,000, 20,000 and 26,000iops in succession. The memory is controlled by a Phision S10 controller, which is also used in the recently announced SSDs from Zotac. Kingston does not disclose which factory supplies the tlc nand.
The UV300 SSDs were presented by Kingston in Russia. Although the manufacturer has not yet announced prices, given the specifications, it is probably budget models. It is also not yet clear whether the UV300 series will follow the V300 series, or whether it is an addition to the range. The V300 SSDs are from 2012 and use mlc-nand in combination with a SandForce controller.
