Kinect for Windows gets new SDK and PC adapter
Microsoft comes with an adapter that allows the Kinect version for the Xbox One to be connected to a PC. In addition, the software giant has announced version 2.0 of the Kinect for Windows SDK and Kinect apps can now also be offered in the Windows Store.
The adapter for the Xbox One Kinect will be priced at 49 euros. Together with a separate Xbox One Kinect, the price is at the same level as the previously released Kinect for Windows v2 kit. In order to use the adapter, a PC with, among other things, a USB 3.0 connection and Windows 8.x is required.
Microsoft has also released the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0. The SDK allows developers to build applications with voice and motion recognition on 64-bit versions of Windows 8.x. In addition to the Visual Gesture Builder, Kinect Studio, and Kinect Fusion tools, the 2.0 version provides an API, the necessary drivers, and sample code.
Once built Kinect for Windows applications can now also be offered in the Windows Store, Microsoft has announced. The offer is currently limited to a few apps, but the software giant hopes that this number will grow quickly with the release of the SDK.
