Kindle Fire Update Allows Streaming Content to TV
Amazon has announced version 3.1 of the operating system that runs on the Kindle Fire tablets. The new software makes it possible, among other things, to stream content from the tablet to a television.
Version 3.1 of the so-called Fire OS should be available immediately via an over-the-air update, Amazon has announced announced. The new software is compatible with the Kindle Fire HD and HDX. The software makes it possible, among other things, to stream content to a TV or PlayStation 3 with the tablets, while support for the PlayStation 4 will follow at a later time. As far as televisions are concerned, only certain Samsung televisions are currently supported.
With the so-called second screen functionality, it is possible to use the Kindle Fire tablet as a remote control. Amazon is thus following in the footsteps of Google, which previously released similar functionality to the Chromecast.
In addition, with the software update, users will get further integration with Goodreads; Amazon previously bought the service, a social network for book readers, for an undisclosed amount. In version 3.1 it is possible, among other things, to share quotes from books or to see what friends are reading.
In addition, Amazon has made a number of smaller improvements, such as support for wireless printing, more possibilities to connect to business networks, improvements to battery life and a number of unspecified bug fixes.
