Amazon will soon be releasing a major update to several Kindles. The most important changes concern a new home screen and quick actions. In addition, recommended books stand out more clearly. The ota update will be available in the coming days.

Previously, the home screen showed three different books with recommendations such as ‘book of the month’ or ‘new and worth reading’. On the new home screen, the most recently read book is large and two other recently read books are slightly smaller next to it. On the right is a new ‘My reading list’ section that lists the books that are on Amazon’s personal wish list and for Goodreads members, here are the books that are on the ‘Want to Read’ bookshelf.

Below that, users will see recommendations, just like on the Amazon site. Also, books that Goodreads contacts read are shown. The titles of the books change every time the e-reader is switched on again.

Several commonly used settings have been made easier to access, such as airplane mode. Also, sharing quotes via Facebook, Twitter or Goodreads is easier than before. After that, others, even without an Amazon account, can read a preview of the book in question in a normal browser.

The update will be coming to the 2014 Kindle, 2013 and 2015 Paperwhite models, and Kindle Voyage in the coming days.
