Kim Dotcom wants to link Megaupload 2.0 to bitcoin microtransactions
Kim Dotcom has announced a release date for its ‘Megaupload 2.0’ service and an associated service called ‘Bitcache’. According to Dotcom, the new Megaupload should become a ‘nightmare for those who engage in mass surveillance and censorship’.
The new Megaupload service will be open to everyone on January 20, 2017, writes Dotcom in a tweet. At the same time, the functioning of Bitcache will also be explained on that date. According to some tweets from Dotcom, Bitcache should solve the problems surrounding Bitcoin’s block size with the ‘cache’ in Bitcache. Larger blocks can allow for more transactions to be processed in the Bitcoin blockchain, but also increase the costs of maintaining the nodes in the network. The discussion has been going on for a long time and so far there is no consensus.
In addition, file transfers via Megaupload will be linked to microtransactions in bitcoin, suggesting that users can earn money from uploaded files that are often downloaded.
Also, Megaupload available are white label, meaning it is free to use on any domain for all cloud sharing needs. It is also possible to upload files hosted elsewhere and to which users link to your own account.
Megaupload 2.0 will provide users with 100GB of storage that they can access from ‘all devices’. The new service will be “much better than Mega and much easier to use,” Dotcom said. He is also still working on MegaNet, a new kind of internet.
