Kim Dotcom shows system that allows uploaders to ask for money

Kim Dotcom has shown a video introducing his first service based on Megaupload 2 and Bitcache, a service that enables bitcoin microtransactions. The service is called Bitcontent and lets uploaders charge for files they post.

In the video, Dotcom explains how the process works. For example, Bitcontent users can create a ‘bitcache container’ for the file they want to upload on the first page. This makes it possible to request a self-chosen price for the file. The video shows text on the page, which indicates that ‘customers’ will see the amount in their own currency as well as in ‘Bits’, which, according to Quartz, can be converted into bitcoin. Dotcom told the site that it plans to have the system ready within the next six months.

The explanation from Dotcom also shows that uploaders can choose whether they want to place their files with Megaupload 2 or with another hoster. In addition, there are options to limit the maximum number of downloads, accept donations, and stream content only. Using a piece of code, uploaders can place a link to their content on their own page or share it by means of a URL. Dotcom has not disclosed further details about Bitcontent.

He managed to raise a million dollars in October for his project around Megaupload 2 and Bitcache. At the time, he said his services would be available at the end of February, but that hasn’t happened yet. Dotcom is currently involved in a lawsuit over his extradition to the United States. The case has been going on since his Megaupload service was taken offline by the FBI in 2012.
