The 2013 Killer Instinct reboot is coming to Steam. The fighting game is originally a free launch title for Xbox One and a Play Anywhere title, making the game available on PCs only in the Windows 10 Store.

It is not yet entirely clear how exactly Microsoft and the developers of the game will pour this into the barrel. Killer Instinct has a free version with microtransactions and a paid version where all content is included. These are available for Windows 10 and Xbox One and since it’s a Play Anywhere title, you only need to buy the game for one of the two platforms and you can play them on both. It is unclear whether players who have already paid for the game should pay again for a paid Steam version.

It is also unclear whether Killer Instinct will remain a Windows 10 exclusive after its release on Steam. It is possible that this will be abandoned. That is also what happened with Quantum Break, the action game from Remedy, which dropped the Windows 10 requirement at the same time as its Steam release.

According to the tweet In which the news is announced, Killer Instinct will be released on Steam at least this year. The questions about the release that are still pending will probably be answered before that release takes place. “Details will follow later,” reports the game’s official Twitter account. The original Killer Instinct was developed by Rareware and was released in the mid-1990s for the Super Nintendo, among others.
