KickAssTorrents is making a comeback

The torrent site KickAssTorrent has been brought back to life, and its administrators claim that many of its original contributors are involved in the comeback. They also state to comply with the law and to enforce a takedown procedure.

The administrators have put the site online at katcr.co, which at the time of writing is very slow to respond. The design of the site is similar to that of the original KickassTorrent site. Still, according to TorrentFreak, they didn’t have access to the original code, as the administrators and other crew members operated separately from the technicians and finance staff in the old version. A large proportion of both KickassTorrents admins and moderators are said to participate in the site.

During the rebuilding of the site, the ‘safe elements’ have been preserved, the people behind KickassTorrents say, without giving details about this. They claim to have a proper dmca takedown procedure built in and not to break the law as they do not post any copyrighted work on the servers.

The original KickassTorrents went offline in July after the site’s suspected owner, a 30-year-old man from Ukraine, was arrested in Poland and subsequently charged by the US. The people behind the new site expect him to go free because the investigation by Homeland Security would be illegal. “It targets a citizen outside the US with a prosecution under US law.”
