Keyless Noke Bluetooth Lock Achieves Kickstarter Goal

The Noke, a lock that does not require a key to open but a smartphone with bluetooth, has achieved its Kickstarter goal in a short time. This allows the production of the electronic lock to start.

To be able to open the Noke, for example if it is used to secure a bicycle with a cable lock, all you need is a smartphone with an active bluetooth 4.0 connection and the Noke app. The lock can be released as soon as the owner moves within three meters of the lock. The user does not have to take his smartphone out of his pocket or bag while the Noke app remains continuously active in the background.

According to the developers of the waterproof Noke, the app, which runs on iOS and Android, can also be used to give others the right to open the lock. For example, a bicycle can be used by several people by sharing codes. The problem of lost bicycle keys also disappears. Should the battery of the smartphone fail, the lock can still be opened with a certain click combination. The battery of the Noke itself has a lifespan of one year.

The makers of the Noke sought an initial capital of 100,000 dollars via Kickstarter. That amount has already been received in a few days: at the time of writing, the counter stands at more than 145,000 dollars, converted approximately 108,000 euros. This clears the way for bringing the keyless lock onto the market. The basic version will have an introductory price of USD 59, or EUR 44, and should be available from February.
