Kerbal Space Program will get free upgrade for new consoles in the fall

Publisher Private Division has announced that Kerbal Space Program will receive an upgrade for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the fall. In addition to graphical improvements, the console versions will receive support for keyboard and mouse. The upgrade is free.

Under the name Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition, the game is coming to the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft. The game will be for sale for 40 euros, but if you already have a console version, you will receive a free update to the improved version.

In an announcement, publisher Private Division mentions several improvements; such as higher resolution, improved frame rate, advanced shaders, improved textures and ‘other performance improvements’. On the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, the game will run in 1440p resolution, with a ‘higher frame rate’ than previous console versions. The publisher does not mention a number. The game will run in 1080p on Xbox Series S.

According to the makers, because the new consoles have more memory, the game runs more stable and players can use more parts in their constructions. The game will also receive full keyboard and mouse support on the new consoles.

Kerbal Space Program is a space simulation game with realistic physics and aerodynamics. The game was released in 2018 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game had already been released for PCs years before; the game is celebrating its tenth anniversary this week. The PC version received the last major update on Thursday.

Developer Squad has been working on Kerbal Space Program 2 for some time, which is slated for release in 2022.
