Kensington releases small USB fingerprint scanner
Kensington has released the VeriMark Fingerprint Key. The USB fingerprint scanner can be used in laptops or computers to log in with Windows Hello. The small accessory can also be used for two-factor authentication.
The USB fingerprint scanner has dimensions of 10x15x30mm, including the USB port. Due to its compact dimensions, the VeriMark Fingerprint Key seems particularly interesting for equipping laptops with a fingerprint scanner. Kensington also supplies a ring with which the accessory can be attached to a key ring.
The included VeriMark password manager allows users to associate passwords with a fingerprint. For example, they can automatically fill in names and passwords by using the fingerprint scanner. The accessory can work with services that support U2F, such as Google, Dropbox, GitHub and Facebook. This allows the fingerprint scanner to be used for two-step authentication.
According to Kensington, scanner has a false rejection rate of 3 percent and a false acceptance rate of 0.002 percent. The manufacturer has the accessory on its website for a suggested retail price of 65.15 euros.
